I'm a first time mom, and had no idea what Smash Cakes were, or why they were needed. Now I know how easy it is to make your own cakes, and even decorate them without spending too much time on them. Striped Mini Smash Cake

I am learning that it does not matter how much you spend on the birthday parties, or the cakes. It's the love, and enjoyment in celebrating. The smash cakes makes it fun for the little ones to get involved, and a lot messy. I think its a great way to step back, and let a little kid, be a little kid.

Sy's first birthday was easy, We had it somewhere that the whole family could have fun at, and he was allowed to run around too (Sy had been walking/running since 9 months old!) I didn't care to spend a ton of money on decorations, or cakes. I did make my own Fondant Figure for his cake. I do believe birthday parties for little kids really don't have to be as hard as some parents stress over. It's a party!! Long as the cake is delicious, the company is fun.. It will be a hit.

Sy's 2nd birthday was extremely easy too,

He turns 3 in December, and this year I am going to make him his own Pirate Smash Cake!! Love this idea. We've always done smaller cakes, but I can't wait til he sees his own Pirate ship cake.

My plan is to take the Betty Crocker Blue Sprinkle Cake, and instead of a 1 on the cake, I am going to trace out a simple pirate ship shape with fondant, and do the Jolly Roger ontop. I seriously don't expect to spend more than the time it takes to bake the cake to trace the Shapes out for the top.

Blue Sprinkles Smash Cake

Here is a cake I made, and used Betty Crockers Easy Icing for the edges (This isn't a smash cake, but it was a cake for my Hubbys friend that was retiring at work.) Cakes should be fun, and easy! I just wanted to show you that I really like the Betty Crocker Cake Icing in the cans, it came with different icing tips for designs too. I think cakes are great for all occasions.
